About the author:

Shihan Brian Fitkin 8 dan, is the Head Instructor at Stockholm Kyokushin. Active as a judge at national and international championships and as a member of the World Karate Organization Shihkyokushin Technique and Grading Committee.

Shihan started practicing karate in 1965 at a club in South London. He trained hard and started his competitive career as early as 10th kyu by placing 2nd in the British Junior Championships. After 4 successful years as a competitor, Shihan traveled to Japan in 1969 to train for Sosai Mas Oyama. He trained every day, sometimes as often as three times a day and at the end of the year he lived in Japan he was awarded a prize for training more hours than anyone else.

By the time he left Japan he had acquired the rank of Sandan (3rd dan).During 1971 Shihan traveled around Europe instructing at many different clubs and in 1974 he moved to Sweden to instruct at the Stockholm Karate Kai. In 1976 it became more difficult to compete due to activities at home, but at the European Championships in Iran he won both the individual and team competitions! Shihan decided that this was his last year competing and has since concentrated on instructing at his own club in Stockholm. Over the years he has produced many successful new masters.Shihan Fitkin has also published a kata book, “Kyokushin Kata”.
