Boxing Gloves Size Guide
Boxing gloves come in different sizes from 2 oz to 18 oz, where oz or ounce is actually a weight measurement indicating how heavy the glove is, or rather how much padding it has. The fit for the hand also varies depending on the model and manufacturer.
- 2 oz are for the very youngest, ages 2-4.
- 4 oz for ages 4-6.
- 6 oz are generally suitable for young practitioners, ages 7-10.
- 8 oz gloves are used for older children ages 11-13.
- 10 oz are most often used for bag and mitt training, and in most regulations with boxing gloves this is the official weight.
- 12 oz are also used for bag/mitts and light sparring, perfect for lighter practitioners weighing 55-70 kg.
- 14 oz are used for sparring and suit most people but are best for practitioners between 70-80 kg.
- 16 oz are used for heavier sparring. If you hit hard or weigh over 80 kg, you should use these gloves when doing free sparring. The glove itself is larger and usually has more padding.
- 18 oz are used for true heavyweights and for those who are extra careful about injuries and/or want some additional conditioning.
Before buying gloves, always consult your coach about which model and size are most suitable for your training!
All boxing gloves made of leather will shape slightly to your hands. Therefore, choose a model that fits well from the start and not too loosely.
Many choose to use hand wraps or inner gloves to avoid hand injuries, which is also our recommendation.
If you train 4-5 days a week, a good tip is to have 2 pairs of gloves – for example, bag gloves and sparring gloves – and to take them out of your bag after each session.
We also recommend using No Stink, to avoid unpleasant odors.
